We worked closely with the clients to develop designs for a low impact, low carbon intensity urban extension and garden office that fit beautifully into their leafy suburban garden setting. Both buildings are planned and orientated around the existing large apple tree that becomes the focus point of the built forms and the landscaping scheme. Both buildings are to be built from glulam timber frame made by Buckland Timber and the garden office will be bult off ground screws to avoid damage to the roots of the apple tree.
The glazing of the main extension is expressed as a kinked protrusion with chunky timber frames and vertical T&G panneling and this will be painted bright red, which alongside the weathered oak cladding will reflect the colours of the old apple tree in the garden. We hope it’s going to be a very special project!
